abrams lower pond Butch and Lorna's upper pond is nestled into the back corner of their home, It is surrounded by a custom deck built by the owner. Although the pond is only 42" deep, it appears much deeper from above, an illusion of good design. Plants like Lotus and water lilies sit on a lower shelf to add necessary shade.

Van and Wynema Atkins have three ponds on their West Ashley property.  All three are constructed using a liner and are host to several kinds of koi.

Marty Berry's pond is constructed of a rubber liner surrounded by rock.  This 1800 gallon pond is actually bigger than it appears.

This Gunite and Rebar pond is built much like a swimming pool with a custom oval shape to appear more naturally appealing. Two bottom drains and two returns filter the 16,000 gallon pond very efficiently. Water is added by well pump when necessary and the drain line is connected to the city sewer lines to provide mess-free drainage.

This is a 3500 gallon water garden with Koi.  Wonderfully landscaped with exquisite horticulture, this backyard water garden is tucked under a large, old live oak tree providing serenity and  tranquility to all who visit.

This  1700 gallon pond features a simple liner construction with a skimmer filter. It houses seven koi of various varieties including:

1 Ogon, 1 Aka Bekko, 1 Hi Utsuri, 1 Shusui and 3 other mixed koi.

This 9000 gallon koi pond includes a separate plant section.  Shaped like a figure 8, it is surrounded by natural rock and features a beautiful bridge and waterfall. Filtration includes an assortment of man-made anti-particulate filters, UV and more.

This lovely 165 gallon formal water feature houses several small koi.  The fountain is a large lion and the base is brick and concrete.  This formal water feature fits very comfortably among its historic downtown Charleston garden.

Langley Pond

This 12,300 gallon pond is constructed of concrete and liner.  It features a meandering flagstone waterfall. Fed by an artesian pump, the pond water is filtered by a Skimmer and three 55-gallon drum particulate biofilters.

Don't let this modest concrete and  stucco form fool you. This is a pristine, 17,000 gallon koi pond. At 5 feet deep it is constructed for easy viewing from the surrounding covered patio.

This 2400 gallon pond is now landscaped with wonderful tropical flowers.  Constructed of a liner and finished with stucco, it contain several very pretty koi.  

Lowe Pond

Tucked behind an historic home in downtown Charleston, Bob and Gwen Lowe have created a backyard paradise.  Their 1900 gallon pond sits adjacent to the formal swimming pool and Brigg's style garden. The pond is built from liner and flagstone construction with a 4 foot waterfall as well as a cordoned plant pond that occasionally houses their fry.

This 2600 gallon oriental style pond is constructed of a liner and Tennessee fieldstones. Filtration includes a Savio filter with Pondmaster pump returning through a gentle waterfall.  Surrounding the pond is a Zen style rock garden.  Potted plants soften the pond and goldfish and koi provide hours of enjoyment.

This pond was constructed by Robert Lewis in 2007. It is approximately 18" deep at each side, dropping to over 5' deep at the middle.  This design prohibits raccoons and water birds from landing to feed on the koi (most of the time.)
