This
pond was constructed by Robert Lewis in 2007. It is
approximately 18" deep at each side, dropping to over
5' deep at the middle. This design prohibits
raccoons and water birds from landing to feed on the koi
(most of the time.)
The upper plant pond is approximately 12" deep,
filled with water lotus, Alocasia, Colocasia, Lizard's
Tails and Pickerel Rush and Pink Lotus. It is also home to a Giant
Bullfrog, 2 Leopard frogs and countless Southern
Toads.
Design
includes 1 bottom drain and 1 Savio skimmer drain that
feeds an AquaDyne bead filter with an attached UV filter
before returning through the water fall.
Trish
and Kathy have approximately 27 domestic and 1 Japanese koi of various
varieties, including several mutts that were rescued from
other ponds. Gertrude, the oldest koi in the bunch is 32 years old.
