Butch and Lorna's upper pond is nestled
into the back corner of their home, It is
surrounded by a custom deck built by the
owner. Although the pond is only 42"
deep, it appears much deeper from above, an
illusion of good design. Plants like Lotus
and water lilies sit on a lower shelf to add
necessary shade.
From
the upper pond, the water travels down a
gently sloped stream bed that winds around
the backyard.
The stream acts as an
additional filtration system, cleansing the
water as it rushes over the river rocks.
Impatiens and other water-loving plants add
a colorful beauty that soften the
edges, giving the stream a more
natural appearance.
Liriope grass is used as a
border.
The stream feeds a second
large pond situated in the middle of the
yard. This pond is home to the largest of
their koi. Skunky, a butterfly Shiro Bekko
is over 24 inches long.
Despite its complex
appearance, this pond is very easy to
maintain and features a simple filtration
system with a powerful pump.
